Good Faith Estimate
You are entitled to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" detailing the expected cost of your medical care. According to the law, healthcare providers must provide an estimate of the bill for medical items and services to patients who are uninsured or not using insurance.

-
Right to an Estimate: You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related expenses such as medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
-
Timing of the Estimate: Ensure your healthcare provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also request a Good Faith Estimate from your healthcare provider, or any other provider you choose, before scheduling an item or service.
-
Disputing a Bill: If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.
-
Keep a Record: Make sure to save a copy or take a picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
